2005 ELITE 125 CODY WILLIAMS WILL BECOME AN AGGIE!*
Longview went 13-0 before they lost to Lufkin in the fourth round of the 5A Playoffs. That was in 2004. In 2005, the Lobos went 10-0 and were ranked as the #3 team in 5A, but they were upset in the first round of the playoffs. Everyone remembers All-American wide receiver Malcolm Kelly who signed with Oklahoma and a junior running back named Vondrell McGee, but who in the world was this defensive end named Cody Williams?
Here is his unbelievable story!

LONGVIEW, Texas - Longview went 13-0 before they lost to Lufkin in the fourth round of the 5A Playoffs. Everyone remembers All-American wide receiver Malcolm Kelly who signed with Oklahoma and a junior running back named Vondrell McGee, but who in the world was this defensive end named Cody Williams? Here is his unbelievable story!
Kelly was one of the Top Five wide receivers in America in 2004, but he was slighted in not getting an offer to play in the US Army All-American Game. I was very interested in him playing in my 2006 All-American Bowl Game Classic, but I was never able to hook-up with Kelly for the invite.
Longview Head Coach John King was also a little miffed at Kelly not getting selected to play in the US Army Game. Junior running back McGee had broke the Longview single season school touchdown rushing record with 27 touchdowns and he also had the second highest single season rushing record with 2,039-yards on 206 carries and a 9.9 yards per carry average. I wanted McGee in my Second Annual All-American Bowl Game, so I called Coach King.
"We have a couple of other players who are really getting a lot of D-I looks and they would also deserve to play in your game," said Coach King. We have a great offensive lineman named Trent Williams and he was one of our best linemen last year and defensive end Cody Williams is a former 200-meter sprinter who has only played one year of high school football.
Originally, Cody Williams was a studious track sprinter who excelled in the 200-meters. He carries a 3.7 GPA overall and a 3.5 GPA in the core. He also had a 1010 PSAT and then recorded a 990 on his first SAT Test try. He was also scheduled to re-take it on April 9. Then Coach Kirk invited him to come out for football and this past fall, he did.
Although Cody Williams could become a phenom, his first year on the varsity was last year and the Lobos already had two seniors starting at defensive end, so playing time was going to be tough.
Williams alternated with the two other senior defensive ends, but when he was in the game, he was some times pretty sensational. And then in the playoffs, he was "The Real Deal" as he recorded 41 tackles, had 12 tackles for a loss, batted-down 6 passes, caused two fumbles, and recovered two other fumbles for a team that was Ranked #6 in the country before finishing with a 13-1 record. Williams, the former 200-meter sprinter in track was just now learning to play football.
This story was written on April 11, 2005. On April 8, 2005, Cody Williams had a birthday and he just turned 17 years of age and he will play his whole senior season and the All-American Bowl Game at that age.
One day I asked his dad, Lee Williams, if he thought that his son could play linebacker, because he could run free at that position and at defensive end, he was negating his great speed. "I think that Cody will play linebacker in college so he can utilize his speed," said Lee Williams, "and I think that a lot of colleges are now looking at him to play that position."
"I decided to write you to thank you for the great exposure and opportunity you have given me," said Cody Williams. I really appreciate being asked to play in the 2006 All-American Bowl Game. Things have really begun to pick-up on the recruiting front in the last few weeks."

Last spring Cody Williams was inducted into the National Honor Society. He is also registered with the NCAA Clearinghouse.
"I've been working hard in the weight room and I know that it will pay dividends next season," said Williams. He has a 325 bench press, a 450 squat, a 300 hang clean, a 325 power clean and a 32-inch vertical jump.
"We're District Champs!"
