Baron Batch: On the Rise

MIDLAND, Texas - The Nations fastest rising prospect may be Midland High School athlete, Baron Batch. His stock has soared so quickly, some of the other recruiting services has yet to upload him into their database.

Midland is known state wide for continually producing some top football players, so there is no shame in the fact that he split time last season with a senior running back. Despite sharing carries Batch still earned a First Team All District spot. Baron racked up  823-yards rushing, averaging 6.2 yards per attempt. He is also an adept receiver, reeling in 33 passes for 423-yards (12.8 ypc). Offensively Batch totalled nearly 1,300-yards and scored a total of twelve touchdowns.

Checking in at 5-10, 190, do not discount Baron's ability to use a physical running style. Bench pressing nearly 400 pounds and squatting 440 pounds Baron has the strength to barrell over any linebacker.

Batch also has the breakaway speed that leaves a true football fan yearning for more. His speed has not only been proven on the football field out running defenders, but on the track as well. He recently broke out with an amazing time in the 100 meters, posting an incredible 10.37.

There is no doubt that college coaches are more than aware of Baron's game. Texas Tech, Purdue, and Kansas State have all thrown their name in the mix by extending early offers. Powerhouse programs Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, LSU, and Iowa are all showing Batch serious interest.

Video Breakdown: There are not many that could go stride for stride with Batch in a race for the endzone. When the seam develops, Batch has the speed to explode through it. The coaching staff at Midland is well aware of his ability to catch the ball. They work him in to the scheme very effectively and are not afraid to put the ball in the air to him on a toss, sprint option, shovel pass, or screen pass.

Batch not only has blazing speed but is shifty and powerful as well. He is not afraid to lower his shoulder to get that extra yard but will also "shake" it up to open a lane to the endzone. Midland runs the spread offense, and Batch affords his quarterback extra time as he proves he understands what it! means to be an effective blocker in that scheme.

Batch has just recently given a verbal committment to Texas Tech. He will play inside receiver for the Red Raiders, so when he catches over 100 passes in a single season in a few years, remember where you heard of him first.
