MIDDLETOWN, New Jersey - There is already a big discussion as to who the #1 player in New Jersey is in 2005 and there are a lot who think that Knowshon Moreno (5-11, 206, 4.45) should be given that tag over another pretty heavily recruited player. Myron Rolle (6-2, 210, 4.52) had close to 40 offers before he narrowed it down to a final five and a lot of people feel that he may be the #1 player in New Jersey, but I wonder.
Both Moreno and Rolle are unbelievable players and it's still pretty hard to try to decide who should be the #1 player in New Jersey. I would love to have both of them if I was drafting a team.
I knew that Moreno was a great player even before he rushed for 420-yards and scored seven touchdowns against an out-manned Neptune team, but I'm not sure that the whole country actually knows how great this running back is and may eventually become.
His final stats as a junior read 2,030-yards rushing, 40 touchdowns scored, and a 9.3 yards per carry average. These are not shabby stats, but the most impressive thing about those yards were that he played three teams in the playoffs that his team had already faced and beaten in regular season and they had to beat all three teams for the second time of the season. They did and finished with a perfect 12-0 record and the Championship.
In every game that Moreno played in this year and any year, he is a "Marked-Man" because every defense is geared to stop him and they did not every really ever stop him. He led his team to their second straight Central New Jersey Group III Championship. Moreno rushed for 93 tough yards in the Championship Game that they won by a 14-0 score over Wall.
In every game, he was expected to do the great things that was needed to win for his team and he did it. He also broke some records and has a chance to break some more as a senior.
I really like Moreno on film and I really believe that he will play on Sunday in a few years. He likes Oklahoma, Michigan, and Miami, but he also is interested in Maryland, Rutgers, and Vitginia.
