AUBURN HILLS, Michigan - Who in the world is Adrian Cannon? To be honest, I had to ask the same question a few weeks ago before I received his highlight tape from his cousin in Tallahassee, Florida.
I watched this beautiful highlight tape of a big wide receiver in Michigan named Adrian Cannon (6-3, 195, 4.5) from Avondale High School and I've got to tell you...he is a pretty amazing prospect on that highlight tape so I immediately picked up the phone and called his cousin, Rodney Marshall, and asked him if he would be interested in playing in my 2006 All-American Bowl Game Classic. Marshall gave me his cell phone number and I immediately called Cannon and extended him an invitation to play in the game and he accepted.
I did a little research on Cannon and at the time, I found that he wasn't even listed by two other recruiting services and I asked Marshall how that could be and he told me that he had moved from Tallahassee last year and a lot of the colleges and recruiting services just had not yet caught up with him. I agreed with him, but I also told him that things were about to change.
On his highlight tape, Cannon is a Randy Moss type of a huge wide receiver who physically takes the ball away from defenders and also receivers when he is playing defense. I'm not sure that he ever came out of the game, because he plays offense, defense, and returns punts and kickoffs.
He returned one kickoff 90-yards for a touchdown and I believe he returned a punt for about the same yards. He actually returned two kickoffs for touchdowns and one punt for a touchdown. He also returned a lot more for around 50-yards or more.
On offense, Cannon caught 36 balls for 705-yards and 9 touchdowns and averaged 19.6-yards per catch.
Cannon and Marshall have been real busy lately as they have been visiting various schools, including a recent visit to The University of Illinois. On that visit, Head Coach Ron Zook offered him a scholarship.
Other visits that this duo have already made together during the Spring Break, included Michigan State, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, and Northwestern. Cannon will also be attending the Nike Camp in Ann Arbor and possibly the Michigan summer football camp.
Cannon has three early offers including Illinois, Kentucky, and Iowa State, but that is about to change drastically, because the "offers" ice has now been broken.
