Floyd Mattison (6-1, 200, 4.32) of Katy Morton Ranch, Texas is one of the Top Five Super Combine Freaks that I have seen this year or any year. He played mostly linebacker as a junior, but he is destined to play either free safety or strong safety in the NFL. He will also play weakside linebacker as a senior in high school.
Here is a Super Combine Freak who can run a 4.32 in the forty; a 38 inch vertical jump; and he can also run around a 4.0 flat in the pro-agility shuttle. He has also done an amazing 125 in the Standing Broad Jump and 28 Reps of 185 on the Bench Press which is pretty outstanding for a 200 pounder.
I rated Mattison as a strong safety, because with his Super Combine feats, he rates off of the chart for either a linebacker or safety on my MEARS INDEX RATING. Since he is only around 200 pounds, I still would project him as a safety at the next level and so I rated him on the MEARS INDEX as a strong safety.
Mattison has done all of these feats and he still has been "Flying Under the Recruiting Radar" for most of the Spring and Summer months. He is not even listed in some of the other recruiting services player database.
How could you not like this kid. When I found out about him, I immediately invited him to play in the 2010 All-American Bowl Game Classic and he has accepted. I hung out with him for about an hour when he came to my Super Combine and he is a great person and a high quality kid. He also changed shirts so I could take a picture of him in an All-American Bowl Game shirt, and with his shirt off and his muscles bulging, he has got to be one of the most incredible physical specimens that I have ever seen
Before his senior football season, Mattison did have some offers, including Oklahoma State, Iowa State, Houston, Rice, Utah, and Tulsa. Right after his senior season started, Mattison decided to give the Houston Cougars a verbal committment.
