Sam Carter (6-2, 215, 4.5) of Katy Morton Ranch, Texas is an exceptional athlete who is playing quarterback for his high school football team. He was originally a Hurricane Katrina Victim, but he has been playing for three years for Houston Sharpstown before moving to Katy Morton Ranch for his senior season.
He has got all of the tools to be a great college quarterback, but he does throw it wih the wrong hand. Yes! He is a left-handed quarterback. He is also a great runner.
I have been impressed with Carter for a couple of years now and he has also grown an inch and gotten a little bigger. I have been so impressed with him, I have invited him to play in the 2010 All-American Bowl Game Classic and he has accepted and he will play quarterback in that game.
His new high school team, Morton Ranch, hosted an offensive lineman Camp in June and of course all of his offensive linemen participated in that Camp. Carter came to that camp to give his offensive linemen all the support that he could give them, including going for and keeping his future teammates full of water bottles and towels. All of the visiting out-of-state coaches were so impressed with this kid and his tremendous leadership, and they all commented on it.
Carter can play quarterback at the next level, but he might be playing inside or outside receiver in the NFL in a few years. He definitely has this kind of overall athletic ability. Another Houston high school quarterback by the name of Vince Young, had this same kind of rare athletic ability, but I always thought that he would be playing quarterback in the NFL and he is. Carter has the same kind of athletic ability, but he may be playing another position when he gets there.
At any rate, how many quarterbacks in the country can do a 4.2 in pro-agilirt shuttle; do a 116 in the standing broad junp; a 32 inch vertical jump; and 22 reps of 185 on the bench press? He also carries a great 3.8 GPA and he has already scored a 1200 on his SAT Test.
Carter has given the TCU Horned Frogs a verbal committment, but before he did that, he had offers from Miami, Oklahoma State, Houston, Baylor, SMU, and New Mexico.
