Shaydon Akuna (6-3, 215, 4.54) of Kopolei, Hawaii is an unbelievable Super Combine Freak. I have just watched him play on You Tube. He plays quarterback and safety, but it looks like he could play any number of positions.
At the recent Polynesian Super Combine in Honolulu, Hawaii, Akuna was the most impressive physical specimen at the Combine and he played linebacker in the drills after running a 4.1 in the pro-agility shuttle. He also did 28 reps of 185 pounds in the bench press; a 36 inch vertical jump; 120 inch standing broad jump; and a 4.54 in the forty, while weighing-in at around 220 pounds.
Akuna is a pretty good quarterback on his highlight film and he probably could play that position if he had to at the next level. Now, the biggest question is where to play him on defense. Some coaches like him as an outside linebacker and some like him as a potential defensive end.
Right now, Akuna runs all over the field in making tackles from his strong safety position and this is the position that I would want him to play on my team. A Hybrid rover-safety would be perfect and then he could make plays on blitzes and intercept balls thrown in the air.
With his unbelievable athletic ability, I would like to see him play outside linebacker or strong safety in our 2010 All-American Bowl Game Classic and I have sent him an invitation to play in the game and he has accepted.
Super Linebacker Manti Te'o (6-2, 225, 4.6) of Honolulu Punahou was one of the top linebackers in the country lin 2008 last year and he was the obvious choice as the #1 player in Hawaii. Every powerhouse team in America was interested in this great playmaking middle linebacker.
Most everyone thought that Te'o would end-up at BYU, but he eliminated the Cougars about two weeks before National Signing Date. He then narrowed his final choices to Southern Cal, UCLA, and a surprise Notre Dame.
Even at this time, since Southern Cal was pretty close or the closest to Hawaii, everyone thought that they would be his future team. The only thing about this way of thinking was that Notre Dame Coach Brian Polian had a real surprise for everyone.
When Te'o signed with The Irish instead of The Trojans, it basically shocked the recruiting world.
Now, the #1 player in Hawaii is a young man by the name of Shaydon Akuna and he is from Kapolei. Wonder if he will shock the world when he signs on National Signing Day?
Akuna is the #1 rated player in Hawaii this year. He has an early interest is in Oregon State, but he also has offers from Oregon, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, and California. Since Notre Dame signed the #1 player in Hawaii last year, why would they not be recruiting the #1 player in Hawaii this year?
