Welch is a tremendous playmaker at tight end. He is a proto-type at the position and although he is not a super speedy tight end, he is fast enough and he has a knack for getting into the clear and making the big catch. He also plays in one of the most competitive high school football leagues in the country and he is one of the very best in that league this year.

 

With these credentials, it is no wonder that he has gathered over 30 scholarship offers. It is also interesting to note that Oklahoma, Ohio State, Florida State, North Carolina, Michigan, and Purdue were all in desperate need of a great tight end in this recruiting class and they all offered Welch.

 

He is a tremendous blocking tight end to go with his great pass-catching ability. He is the complete tight end. I really like this kid and his great upside potential and I have invited him to play in the 2010 All-American Bowl Game Classic.

 

As a Notre Dame freshman, next year, Welch will again be teammates of former High School All-American tight end Kyle Randolph of the same Elder high school. There will always be a similar comparison between the two.
