Ortega is a very impressive Super Combine Freak. He had already put-up some very impressive Super Combine stats, but he came to the Max Emfinger Super Combine in Austin, Texas and he really showed us why he is truly a Super Combine Freak.
He had already done a very good 37 inch vertical and he did a 35 inch vertical in Austin. His 4.1 in the pro-agility shuttlle was also impressive and he followed that up with a very good 4.18 in Austin. He improved his Standing Broad Jump from a very good 115 at the NIKE Combine to a 120 in Austin.
His 18 Reps on the 185 pound bench press was one of the best at the Super Combine in Austin, but the thing that separated Ortega from most of the rest at his position was his great hands in the passing drills. He caught everything that was thrown to him and I do not believe that he dropped a single pass for the hour that we spent in the passing drills.
I believe that his perfect position at the next level is that of a slot or inside receiver. This kid can catch a quick pass and be gone before a free safety even knows that he has the football. His height is also a plus factor as a slot receiver, because it is very hard for the defensive back to even see him.
Ortega has great explosion off of the line of scrimmage and tremendous quickness coming out of his pass route. I really like this kid and I have invited him to play in the 2010 All-American Bowl Game Classic and he has accepted.
Asa junior, Ortega rushed for 1,385 yards and made First Team All-Distriict. He has been "Flying Under the Recruiting Radar" until now, but I believe that he will be outstanding again as a senior and by playing in our game, he will get some great publicity. He also might be able to play free safety in the All-American Bowl Game and this will also help him.
